What Really Matters!!!

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him in a

Mayonnaise jar and fill them with golf balls. He then asked students if the jar was full.

They all said yes …. He then took a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. Shook it and

pebbles filled the areas between the balls. Asked again if the jar was full.. Yeas screamed out!

 Next he picked up a box of sand poured it in the jar… the sand filled the empty space.

asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous “yes.”

 Professor then pulled a coffee pot from under the table and poured coffee into the jar

filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

 So after the laughed subsided  he then said I want you to see the jar as representing your life….

The golf balls are the things that are most important in your life..GOD, family, children, health, a select few friends, and your passions..

And if you lose everything else you would still be full because these things remained in your life..

 The pebbles are things that matters like jobs, career, your home and car, food, clothing, which are necessities in life…

 The sand is everything else which is so miniscule, the small stuff!!!!!

 Therefore, if you put the sand in first there would be no room for other stuff; the pebbles or golf balls.

This is the same with life… if we spend all our time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the

things that are important to you, so pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness, love your children

your spouse, health, your passion, and what you truly enjoy doing … other things will make time for itself.

Take care the golf balls first, which is what really matters, set your priorities and everything else is the sand…

 So in giving examples of what the pebbles, sand, and golf ball means, but nothing represented the coffee; One student

raise the question what did the coffee represent ?

The professor smiled and said glad you asked.. It goes to show that no matter how full your life may be there should

always be room for a cup of coffee with a friend or loved ones…!!!!
